ABSTRACT: The study was conducted during November 2019 to March 2020 in the field and laboratory of the Department of Entomology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur to find out the taxonomic position, pest status and seasonal abundance with richness and biodiversity of insect pests on cabbage. Among the seven arthropod pest’s species, four were lepidopteran, two were coleopteran and only one was dipteran pests. According to the rate of plant infestation, flea beetles (100.0%), prodania caterpillar (33.3%) and diamondback moth (33.3%) were categorized as major pests whereas epilachna beetle, leaf miner, cut worm and cabbage worm were categorized as minor pests having percent plant infestation of 16.7%, 11.1%, 1.9% and 1.6%, respectively. The average population density of different arthropod pest of cabbage per plot (3m × 2m) in 7 observations was 0.14, 1.85, 2.00, 0.00, 0.71, 6.71, 9.85 for cutworm, epilachna beetle, flea beetle, leaf miner, cabbage looper, prodania caterpillar and diamondback moth (DBM), respectively. The abundance of insect pests was the maximum during the 3rd week of February (5.3±0.4 per 6m2 ), the richness was the maximum (1.3±0.1) during the 3rd week of January, whereas the diversity was the maximum (1.0±0.0) during the 1st week of December and the 3rd week of January.
