ABSTRACT: The study was conducted to assess the seasonal incidences of budworm Helicoverpa virescens (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and bagworm Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis on rose and thuja plants, respectively. The study also investigated the effect of the chemical insecticides Proclaim 5SG and Talstar 2.5EC on the abundances of the above mentioned insect pests. The findings revealed that both the insects pests occurred from December to May. However, budworm reached to the peak abundance in the month of January, while bagworms reached the peak in March. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the weather parameters collectively influenced 10.3% and 11.2% incidences of budworm and bagworm, respectively. The individual as well as combined effect of the meteorological parameters on both the pests were insignificant. Proclaim 5SG and Talstar 2.5EC with their recommended doses significantly reduced the abundances of budworm and bagworm on the infested rose and thuja plants, respectively. The tested insecticides could be a tool for integrated management of rose budworm and thuja bagworm.
